Similac PM 60/40 Recall

Abbott is recalling one lot of Similac PM 60/40 (Lot # 27032K80 (can) / Lot # 27032K800 (case)) manufactured in Sturgis, Michigan. This is in addition to lots of Similac, Alimentum, and EleCare powder formula that were recalled on February 17. The FDA’s investigation related to powder infant formula produced in Abbott’s Sturgis, Michigan facility related to Cronobacter and Salmonella infections in infants is ongoing.

Infant Formula Recall Issued

Abbott is initiating a proactive, voluntary recall of powder formulas, including Similac, Alimentum and EleCare manufactured in Sturgis, Mich., one of the company’s manufacturing facilities. The recall does not include any metabolic deficiency nutrition formulas.Affected products are in circulation in Iowa retail locations and have been distributed through the Iowa Department of Public Health’s WIC program.

Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month

 Every year during the month of February, victim service providers and community advocates work together to spread awareness for teen dating violence. According to loveisrespect.org, 1 in 3 teens in the U.S. will experience physical, sexual, or emotional abuse from an intimate partner before they become adults. When college age students are examined, “nearly half (43%) of those who identify as college women report experiencing violent and abusive dating behaviors.

Benton County Nursing Homes dealing with COVID infections

In Benton County, both the Vinton Lutheran Home and the Keystone Nursing Care center saw a spike in COVID cases. The Vinton Lutheran home had only six cases last week but the state of Iowa reported 19 cases this week. The Keystone Nursing Care Center now has eight infections.This week the Iowa Department of Public Health announced that it will no longer collect data from Iowa nursing homes concerning COVID-19 infection.

Area Therapist published in Medical Journal

Elise Healzer, LMFT of Vinton shared her expertise to help publish paper in the Orphanet Journal of Rare Diseases Elise Healzer a local Mental Health Therapist or LMFT was published this week in the Orphanet Journal of Rare Diseases, a medical journal article entitled, "Development of a standard of care for patients with valosin-containing protein associated multisystem proteinopathy." She was surprised to be approached about contributing to the project. "If you had told me a year ago that I would be published in a medical journal I would have laughed in your face," she said.

Iowa schools are eligible to receive a water bottle filling station.Iowa schools have the opportunity to receive a new water bottle filling station through the Rethink Your Drink program, funded by the Delta Dental of Iowa Foundation. Selected schools will have an old drinking fountain replaced with a new Elkay water bottle filling station. Priority will be given to schools that have one or fewer water bottle filling stations in their building and schools that have a free and reduced price lunch status of 50% or greater.
